Our Founder’s Journey

I’m Angel, a single mother of three whose story begins with heartbreak and hope in equal measure. In 2008, I had my first son Victor in Waltham, MA, undocumented and alone — abandoned by his father and surviving on just $40 a day as a companion to a new mother. Every morning, I clutched a hopeful Walmart baby list in my pocket, dreaming of the softest washes, the gentlest lotions, and brand‑new onesies. Instead, I scoured the Global Thrift on Moody Street for secondhand treasures—items washed by hope more than by me, because gentle baby care was beyond my means.

When my son was just two months old, I made the agonizing decision to send him to live with family in Africa. I feared DCF would take him, and I simply couldn’t keep him safe the way he deserved. Those next three and a half years passed in blurry distance—peppered only by the occasional photo, the little window into how he slept, how he laughed, how he grew. I didn’t know if he was warm at night or soothed when he cried.

That deep ache—of love met by powerless longing—shaped everything I do today. Native Kanvas Baby was born from the promise I made to my son: that every parent, every baby, deserves pure, gentle care. From the tear‑free wash I could only imagine, to the rich creams I yearned to massage into his soft skin, each formula reflects the promise I carried across oceans and time. Because no parent should ever have to choose between love and safety—and no baby should ever go without the care they deserve.
